Alley,

There are advantages and disadvantages and it also depends on the screen 
reader you are using. I use Firefox with NVDA and it works wonderfully. 
However, I seldom need to use IE with some pages like Amazon or when I 
can't access some link.

The main advantages are:

1. Smaller learning curve when you start using a new version of Windows

2. It's easier to arrange The bookmarks into folders, delete them, ETC: 
Just use the applications key to cut and paste.

3. It's said that there's less chance to get viruses, since IE is much 
more targeted by hackers.

4. The browser continues to update even if one still uses Windows XP.
