[Electronics-Talk] [Blindtlk] Online Shopping Difficulties

Hi,

The walmart.com site was one I had trouble using. I was able to find the
product I wanted but was unable to select the size choices. I had trouble
getting the list to expand so I could choose. Then if I finally did manage
to get lucky enough to expand the list, then it would not allow me to click
on my choice. Then it put multiple items into the cart instead of just one.
I finally got so frustrated that I had to call my sister and have her log
onto my account and help with the purchase. If the item you want does not
require you to make any choices then you can do it fine without sighted
help. Otherwise you will need assistance. This is very frustrating. I
wish our legislators would pass laws forcing all companies to have
accessible websites. We are still quite limited when it comes to total
accessibility to information whether it be to appliances, literature,
printed information and websites. I guess the blind still have a lot of
work to do until we can truly say we have equal access.

I have noticed that a lot of websites have gone to a different website
design like Wall mart and Home Depot, and others. I am an avid online
shopper using Jaws. These newer versions seem to have something called
a toolbar with buttons that can interfere with your navigation. I tend
to use the find command a lot and take time exploring these new
toolbars and something called slides. The info is there, but you just
have to play a little to figure out this new arrangement. I use Amazon
a lot and find it easy to use.
Hope you can get your shopping done, and you might try calling the
store too. Many have great customer service.
