As this kid growing up in New York City in the fifties and sixties, I can
remember having heard that some folks wore pointed shoes to be able to kill
the roaches in the corners of their house.

Hi,
I have just a few comments about little bugs in the house or apartments.
The many little bugs are mostly harmless but no one wants them in their 
home.
Roaches can live without food but they must need water to live on.
That is the reason when a proffessional comes to spray they will always 
spray in the kitchen and the bathrooms or any place where there is a water 
source.
I live in the shore of N.J..
Since it is damp and my condo has no crawl space I will get ants in the 
summer months.
kitchen counters must be crumb free and water free.
It is very damp here and my towels will stay damp even the next day.
I use large trays to work on.
My coffee machine is on a large tray which has a lip around and when I pour 
the water into my coffee machine some water might overflow and it only goes 
on the tray.
My container of coffee is also on this tray.
I use many trays on my counters and it is so easy just to dump the grines, 
crumbs and other scraps in the sink and just rinse off the trays and place 
them to dry.
No crumbs or sitting water for the un-invited pests.
