Yes, from the time you get the push notification and tap on it.

As far as the sound is concerned, it is a tinkling chime sound and voice 
over will alert you that there is motion at your door.  I think you can 
change the sound in the ring app settings, but I have never seen the need to 
do that.

You can set up the app to alert to either motion, doorbell ring, or both
