It's a powerful tool that reimagines how technology can enhance independence and mobility, and was built with the help of Guide Dogs UK and San Francisco Lighthouse for the blind, organizations that empower the blind and people with low vision with technology, training and more. Throughout National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Microsoft shared examples of how advances in technology can make a difference in the lives of the more than 1 billion people with disabilities around the world, and in this video, Amos Miller shows CEO Satya Nadella how he uses the app to navigate the Microsoft campus in Redmond: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmbQGCZmgsU 7) What Is WordPress And Should You Use It? Here at Mind Vault we host WordPress websites for several BVI clients that in turn administrate these sites themselves through WordPress. It is an incredibly flexible and accessible platform for web development and this article outlines many of the reasons that I recommend it to clients so often: https://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-wordpress-3199470/ 8) Apple Fixed a Serious iOS Security Flaw — Have You Updated Yet? It changed a few years ago to behave differently from what most Office users expect. Ctrl + F6 will switch (cycle through) the open windows in Word or PowerPoint. It's a quick way to move between different documents/slides. Since Windows doesn't have a global shortcut to cycle through open windows of an app, it's a useful shortcut to remember: https://office-watch.com/2022/ctrl-f6-mystery-revealed-in-excel/ 16) An Introduction and Overview of Pages for macOS (The 2022 Edition) To help start off a new school year, Tyler gives us a podcast demonstration covering some of the aspects of Pages for macOS using VoiceOver: https://www.applevis.com/podcasts/introduction-overview-pages-macos-2022-edition 17) SuperNova 21.03 Now Available We are pleased to announce that a free update is now available for all SuperNova and Dolphin screen reader customers running version 21: https://yourdolphin.com/en-gb/news?id=522 18) How To Make A Non-Contiguous Selection in Microsoft Word And File Explorer Using NVDA | YouTube | User Thee Quinn Watch this video to find out how to make a non-contiguous selection in Microsoft Word and in File explorer with NVDA. The current Firefox multi-process accessibility architecture suffers from considerable, sometimes catastrophic performance issues and is more costly and difficult to maintain than they would like. These deficiencies prompted the team to design and build a newer, faster and more maintainable accessibility engine and the team has dubbed that project "Cache the World". It's called that because the new engine automatically sends information from web content processes to a cache in the browser's main process for consumption by assistive technologies: https://blog.mozilla.org/accessibility/cache-the-world-opt-in-preview/ 21) Six Months With Android: A Journey From A Blind Perspective During the last six months, I've used Android exclusively as my primary device. I made calls with it, texted with it, read emails with it, browsed the web, Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook with it, and played games on it. Now, I'm going to express my thoughts on it, its advancements, and its issues. This will contain mostly opinions, or entirely opinions, depending on whether you really love Android or not. But whatever your stance, these are my experiences with the operating system. People with a wide range of disabilities have the right to certain accommodations in order to allow them to work or study at the same level, however, often places do not even do the bare minimum. Thankfully, one Baylor Study has now shown how that does not need to be the case for blind scientists thanks to 3D printing. The conference will be held virtually so you can present from anywhere worldwide. Here are some other important things to know about speaking at WordPress Accessibility Day: We will provide an accessible speaking experience — the presentation platform will be screen reader-friendly, and we will have captions and sign language interpretation available for speakers as needed. You don't have to have speaking experience! We would love to have first-time speakers present and can support you in presenting as needed. You don't have to be an "expert" or have any special certifications. Anyone with something to share related to accessibility on the web or in WordPress is invited to apply. You can share your journey learning about accessibility or your experience as a person with a disability even if you don't think you've reached the end of that journey yet. Your topic doesn't have to be explicitly WordPress related. While we want some talks specific to WordPress and want to encourage developer-level presentations, not all talks need to be specific to WordPress. General website accessibility talks with broad applications for websites of all types and people of all levels of technical abilities are welcome. If you have an idea for a talk to share your knowledge or experiences about the intersection of WordPress and accessibility, we'd love to hear it! https://wpaccessibility.day/weekend-plans-apply-to-speak-at-wp-accessibility-day/ 14) AT Gifts for the Holidays | Technology User Group, Maryland State Library November 5th 2022 | 7AM PT, 8AM MT, 9AM CT, 10AM ET, 2PM GMT | Our annual look at gadgets and gizmos that will make your holiday season a successful one.
