[Electronics-Talk] cardio equipment and accessible workout apps

Revision Fitness, which has an iPhone app, has cardio workouts for home
which don't require any equipment, just movements like running in place. It
also has a lot of exercises and plans to achieve various goals. It's
designed by a blind person for blind people, so all the exercises have very
clear instructions in the learning part of the app. It can be a bit chatty,
but, once you've learned a routine, there's a place where there's just music
and a cue to change exercises. It's a subscription of something like $6 a
month or $60 for a year.

Subject: [Electronics-Talk] cardio equipment and accessible workout apps

Hi all,

I hope your new year is going well.

For my cardio exercise, I use the three main cardio devices at the gym when
I've been to one. The devices are treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals.

I want to exercise more consistently and build up stamina in the new year.

I might incorporate some structured home workouts if my folks let me buy new
equipment. We have a very old treadmill which does not even have a way to do
inclines by pressing buttons and an old recumbent bike too.

Its showing its age so if I get a new piece of cardio equipment, I'd like
some workouts to go with it.

What equipment do you use? Now a days, many are touch screen.

Also, if you had a flat pannel display, what did you label it with? Since
I'm with sighted people at home, I'd label with clear tape. Probably the
clear labeling tape from Independent living Aids.

My goals are to stay healthy, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol,
decrease stress, and enjoy the impact of exercise. I might lose weight too
although it depends on if I want to diet more. At least by increased fitness
I can maintain my current weight.

To incorporate some workouts and be motivated, I wanted to know about the
apps out there now a days.

So, what workout apps are user friendly and accessible?

Do they track your progress such as saying you worked out on Tuesday and
cycled 11 miles?

Do they enable you to track progress as you workout?

There are many bike workout apps for instance. Do all of them have live
classes or are some on demand?

Is it possible to pay for the service from month to month, or do you have to
commit for a half or whole year?

Do they have music in them like classes you'd do at a gym?

I do not have a smart tv but I could use an Ipad with voice over.

What are the types of options on such fitness apps?

If you use an app or more, please say what devices you used to run it on.

If you use a standard cardio piece of equipment, do you use any of the
programmed workouts using sighted assistance? I think the downside to built
in workouts is they have no instructor giving motivating prompts and no
music.

How diverse are the workouts?

Can you pick workouts for toning for instance or fat burning?

Can you pick a studio cycle class 30 minutes or less? As someone who is
trying to be in shape, the hour long classes at the gyms are too long.

Some apps out there are these:

*              iFit

*              Strava

*              Zwift

*              Peloton

*              Bikemap

*              CycleGo

>From what I've read online, Ifit seems to be the one of the most diverse and
flexible apps because it loads on many devices and has workouts for many
types of equipment.

Thanks for any explanations or opinions on access.

If the app works with certain equipment, please specify what type of
equipment it goes with. From what I've read iFit works with NordicTrack
equipment.

Thanks,

Ashley
