[Electronics-Talk] kindle books and the apps

I have used the iPhone app a bit.  The buttons are labeled.  There is a menu
that lets you jump to a different section.  Going back a page or 2 without
using the menu wasn't very easy, last time I tried it.  
I use it with the NLS braille eReader, so I swipe down on the phone to read
all, then turn off speech and read with the reader.  It works well.

You do need an Amazon account to buy Kindle books.  For some reason, you
can't buy them through the Kindle phone app.  You have to buy it through
Amazon, then download it to the phone.

I have not yet tried Kindle but plan to.

 

What is your experience with the books and apps for it? I heard the
accessibility has improved.

Can you use keystrokes on a computer or gestures on a mobile device to jump
from various sections to next sections as sighted people do?

Have you found that the buttons, links and other controls are labeled so
screen readers can recognize them?

I mean can you jump from chapter to chapter, page to page or even heading to
heading if there are headings within a chapter?

 

 

I could read via my IOS tablet but likely would read via the pc since I can
also take notes on Microsoft Word on that device.

What is the kindle pc app like? Also what voices can you use? Do you have to
use your screen reader's voice? In my case, that is Jaws for Windows.

Does the app remember your place in the book when you stop reading? 

I'm used to using the Victor reader daisy players and the good thing about
them is that it does remember your place after you turn off the machine or
go to a different book shelf.

 

I am wondering if you can somehow use more human sounding voices  such as
those built into Windows? For instance David and Hazel sound more natural to
me.

 

Also, do you need an amazon account to buy and then read your downloaded
Kindle book? I would think so. If that is the case, my mom has an amazon
prime account.
