Yes, all of that. oh and you can use whatever voice you like for your jaws. I prefer eloquence, but I've tested it with some of the vocalizer voices and it worked the same.

Hello,
I am a Jaws user. Thanks for the tips about reading the product details and the heading search.
It sounds like standard Jaws commands work. I also press insert down arrow to read the whole page when reading a book.
That say all command is one of my favorites.
I assume you can also read by sentence and hear words spelled aloud too.
That is insert five twice with jaws for spelling.
Thanks.
Ashley

Hi Ashley,
I've been reading kindle books since 2012, when amazon had a kindle for pc app with accessibility plug in. back then, it didn't work with jaws, but had it's own TTS. Some years later, amazon changed things and now the kindle for pc app doesn't need a plug in to work with your screen reader. I use jaws and read my kindle books that way. I usually start with insert down arrow for say all, and jut hit control if I need to stop. You can use basic reading commands. The app is a little weird but it is accessible. The important thing to remember is that when you're on the detail page for a book you want to get, if you're a jaws user, press your H key for headings and find product details. Arrow down through the list of details and make sure that TTS and screen reader are supported. If not, you won't be able to read the book. This is not an amazon thing. Some publishers are behind the times in terms of accessibility and don't allow kindles they publish to be screen reader supported. I haven't used the iPhone app in many years so can't speak to what it does these days. If you ever do get the pc app, write to me, and I'll be happy to get you started using the app, until you are a little familiar with its eccentricities.

Hi all,
I have not yet tried Kindle but plan to.
What is your experience with the books and apps for it? I heard the accessibility has improved.
Can you use keystrokes on a computer or gestures on a mobile device to jump from various sections to next sections as sighted people do?
Have you found that the buttons, links and other controls are labeled so screen readers can recognize them?
I mean can you jump from chapter to chapter, page to page or even heading to heading if there are headings within a chapter?
I could read via my IOS tablet but likely would read via the pc since I can also take notes on Microsoft Word on that device.
What is the kindle pc app like? Also what voices can you use? Do you have to use your screen reader's voice? In my case, that is Jaws for Windows.
Does the app remember your place in the book when you stop reading?
I'm used to using the Victor reader daisy players and the good thing about them is that it does remember your place after you turn off the machine or go to a different book shelf.
I am wondering if you can somehow use more human sounding voices such as those built into Windows? For instance David and Hazel sound more natural to me.
Also, do you need an amazon account to buy and then read your downloaded Kindle book? I would think so. If that is the case, my mom has an amazon prime account.
Thanks,
Ashley
