December 31 - SET YOUR GOALS!

If God should allow you to live another year, what are you going to
do with it? Throughout this book I've done my best to give you a sense of
purpose and direction for your life--the goal of knowing, worshipping and
serving God better.
Jesus was 12 years old when he visited Jerusalem with His mother
and stepfather. When Mary and Joseph returned towards Nazareth without
Jesus and discovered He was missing, they worried. They returned to
Jerusalem to find Him talking with the leaders of the Temple. When Mary and
Joseph expressed their worry over His welfare Jesus said, "I must be about
my Father's business" (Luke 2:49, emphasis mine). Jesus was aware of His
mission at this young age. Some people have the idea Jesus was, in many
ways, a free agent. But 22 times in the Gospels, Jesus said, "I MUST!" You
need to develop the same determination to complete your mission in life.
You, too, need to say, "I must be about my Father's business."
Jesus was not a divine drifter. He had a job to do, and He was
determined to complete it. His task was great. Jesus had to:
      Live a sinless life.
      Reveal God to men.
Work miracles to meet the needs of the people.
Die for the sins of the world.
Do you want to do God's will this coming year? Will you strive to
live without sinning? Will you reveal God to men by your life of works?
Will you be an eager witness? Will you lay down your life for others? Adopt
these goals for yourself and you will be able to say with Christ, "I have
glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me
to do" (John 17:4).

"And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not
that I must be about my Father's business?" (Luke 2:49).
