[Faith-talk] New NIV drops Gender

Hi all --
I agree about the plethora of bible versions that change the meanings of
things. But there is one fact about the KJV that one needs to be careful
of:
It is 400 year old English and so there needs to be footnotes or other
documentation describing what a verse meant in renaissance English. For
example, "shambles" is a meat market, and "suffer" means to allow, and
"passion" has no sexual connotation.
Also, if a retranslation is made of the bible, it should come from original
text used by the King James translators.
Finally, the KJV is only a translation to an imperfect language, and in fact
no language is perfect, even that used by the original writers of the bible.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the KJV may contain errors, but it is
the best guess of the meanings of things.

I always liked the following verses:
2Peter 3:19-21
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye
take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn,
and the day star arise in your hearts:

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Happy New Year all!

Hi Joshua,

I agree with you. Please remember that we are in the end times, and
Christ is coming back soon. Many prophecies have already been
fulfilled, and the rest will be. People want to remake God and His
Word to fit their beliefs and agendas, rather than conforming to His
Word. What we can do is pray and share Christ with others.

Blessings,

Linda
