The translators of the KJV Bible used manuscripts that were much 
younger than the ones used by translators of newer modern Bible 
translations today. Remember that before the invention of the 
printing press, manuscripts were handcopied and thus sometimes 
subject to human error.

Older manuscripts that were closer to the time of the origional 
writers of the Books of the Bible are generally thought to be more 
accurate than later manuscripts.

That said, the scribes that copied the manuscripts over the century 
exercised great care and diligence in doing so. when the Dead Sea 
Scrolls became available, it was amazing to see how accurately 
Scripture had been preserved over many centuries.
