I find it creepy, too. When the woman in Venezuela did it, I knew instantly 
that she'd gone from speaking in Spanish to something else and it felt like 
something dark had crept into that room.

I might buy into the statement that speaking in tongues is evidence to
oneself that one has the gift of tongues. I mean it's kind of hard to argue
with that logic. If one speaks in tongues then one definitely has the
evidence before himself or herself. I don't believe that it is evidence to
oneself that he or she is filled with the Holy spirit. I believe that a
sense of peace and a sense of discernment, a sense of compassion, a desire
to grow in god's word, etc, are evidence to oneself that one is filled with
the Holy Spirit.

I will tell you this: my wife's daughter had never been in a Pentecostal
church before. The first day she was in the church, someone prayed over her,
speaking in tongues. This did nothing to foster a belief in this unbeliever.
In fact, she no longer wants to go back to this church. It scared her and
did nothing to bolster her belief in God.

She thinks badly of the church now and the woman who prayed in tongues over
her did more damage than good.

The woman was more impressed with her abilities and her gift than her desire
to bring this girl into a relationship with Christ Jesus. She failed to use
discernment and as a result, my step daughter believes less than she did
when she entered the doors of the church.

I believe that the woman who prayed in tongues over her used absolutely bad
judgment as she had already been warned that my step daughter was not used
to the principle of speaking in tongues and that the principle and practice
would scare her.

I was filled with the Holy Spirit in a church service back in early 2005. I
was in a praise and worship service and I was filled while I was on stage. I
know I was filled because something in my heart changed. I also felt drunk
at the time and the whole service was, and still is, hazy in my mind. But,
it was many months from then when I began to speak in tongues.
