Hi,
Which Bible translation is preferred is a highly personal choice.
When you talk about a "study bible", I would understand this to mean
a Bible with a lot of footnotes, study notes and references and study
aids included with the Bible text. In my sighted days, I used the NIV
study Bible and the Oxford Annotated Study Bible, which in my sighted
days came with the RSV text while my husband in 2001 at seminary
used the same Study bible with the NRSV text.
I am not sure what study Bibles are available in accessible format. A
good source to check is Pastor Tom's Optasia Ministry at
http://www.optasiaministry.org/library.htm
I think the NIV Study Bible is available from there.
As which bible translation is good for study rather than casual
reading, my preference is a text that is as literal as needed and as
readable as possible. My personal prefernce is the NRSV or the TNIV
while I know that others swear by the New American Standard or the
New King James Version.
I usually find it preferable to use at least two different Bible
translations when doing serious study, preferably more. This is best
done with either a Bible study program or online at a site like Bible
Gateway. Pastor Tom's Optasia Bible Collection makes jumping between
different Bible translations easy as well and is therefore great for
offline study and reading.
