[Faith-talk] Study Bibles

I come from a non-English background and as such sometimes marvel at
the kjv-only controversy. i have seen some kjv advocates talk about
it being written in what they refer to as "Biblical English".

My native language has nowhere near the richness and variety of
Bible translations that you guys are blessed with in English some
people will prefer one translation over another but there is nowhere
near the argumentation and absurdity that i have seen over the KJV
debate. If someone is that concerned about the accuracy of the
meaning or avoiding mistranslation of a single word or phrase, they
would probably want to get into the original Greek and Hebrew to get
as close to the original of the Biblical manuscripts as they possibly
can. You as a Pastor will appreciate study of the original languages.

As to Jn. 14:2 you quote, I do not know the origional word used in
Greek for your "mansion" vs. "room" as I do not know enough Nt Greek
to read the original manuscript. the NRS and NAS render the passage
with "dwelling place". I wonder if "mansion" doesn't conjure up a too
specific image in our minds.
