[Faith-talk] An Addition to the Post on Claude Ely from Joshua

Joshua,
I saw an example of lining in To Kill a mockingbird.
So you're saying it is still practiced in black churches; that is
interesting. Most churches have not kept their traditional practices.

Lining is done in Black churches, in the "Dr Watts," Songs.
For instance, I'd start off, if I were leading it with this.)
"I love the lord, he heard my cry."
Then, the congregation would go in, and hold it out, "I love the Lord,
he heard my cry."
Lead, "And pityed every grone," and the congregation would repeat, and
draw out that phrase.
Lead, "Long as I live, and troubles rise," (congregation repeats in
same drawn out sounds.)
Lead, "I'll hasten to his throne," congregation draws repeats and
draws out that phrase, and ends the first verse.
I'll find a Dr Watts song, and put it on here.
Blessings, Joshua
