Ponderings of the Praetorium

O Christ, the crown of death was on Thy brow,
And in Thine eyes deep mystery and pain;
The Kingdom seemed forgotten then-but now,
Lord, take Thy crown and reign!

O Christ, with what derision did they bow
And mock Thee, stripped robings and of throne;
And hatred seemed to win the day-but now,
Lord, reign, and reign alone!

O Jesus, when I think of Peter's vow,
I wonder: Might I curse Thee and depart?
Hold fast my consecration here and now;
