[Faith-talk] is it wrong to question?

Hi Timothy,

I too question my understanding of the Bible and of the teachings of my
Church. I am a Catholic. I accept the teachings, but I'm sure I have a
long way to go in understanding them.

The Da Vinci code is not to be taken seriously. It is historically
inaccurate. In fact, it is just fiction.

The present contents of the New Testament were chosen near the beginning
of the second century. The successors of the Apostles picked from a
large number of texts the ones that they thought best conveyed Jesus'
teachings. They could only pick a limited number, because everything had
to be hand-copied.

Books like the gospel of Thomas were written in the third or fourth
century, when the New Testament had already been put in final form. They
are pseudonymous works.

The gnostics believed in all sorts of things. The name comes from their
contention that they had special knowledge which others did not have.

The Bible does teach that when we accept Jesus the Holy Spirit comes to
dwell in our hearts. Look at John 14, 15 and 16.

I hope this helps,
John

I have read the devenchy code by Dan brown. it made me question and then a friend sent me a video about the missing texts. why is the texts missing and why were they band from the 66 texts of the bible? because they said things the roman governor Constantine didn't agree with so they disclosed them. well, more and more of the old texts are being found and compiled into the gnostic bible. i know a lot of you believe gnostics are wrong and even evil. what's wrong with researching the truth? now, in defense of our bibles of today the gnostics believe a bit differently. they believe that god is within you waiting to be found.

> anyway, these are thoughts i figured i would share with you. maybe it will make you think about your faith. it did for me. i would like to be perfectly clear, this doesn't make me question my faith. i'm doing research for a greater meaning of life and the lord.
