I was introduced to the nfb and its philosophy right after I lost my 
sight and appreciate the nfb's affirmative position on blindness.

On the other hand, though, to the uninitiated, some NFB'lers
seem to treat the organization almost like a religion, which, of 
course, it is not.

Just my two euro cents from across the pond ...
