[Faith-talk] recommended books

Hello Debbie, I had a pastor tell me that they read the Shack and that they
really enjoyed the book, but that it wasn't supposed to be biblical, but
rather an  allegory much like the book Pilgrims Progress which I have read a
couple of times and highly recommend, and at the same time, for the life of
me, I can't see how a woman posing as God or Jesus in the book the Shack is
near the same as the Pilgrims Progress, but he shrugged it off as nothing.
For myself, I haven't read the Shack, but I am still curious to understand
where he  was coming from, but sense I respect you, I wonder how you feel? I
tend to be so conservative at times that I can sometimes feel legalistic and
not so full of grace even when a book is in question.

Hi Ashley, I know that Max Lucado books are on BARD, and also 
Bookshare.  Perhaps Audible dot com, too.  As for the Shack, I 
respectfully disagree with you, Linda.  The author used some 
imagination when He wrote The Shack, but there is nothing 
different than C.S.  Lewis portraying Jesus as Aslan a Lion.  
When I first began reading The Shack, I was a little shocked but 
the more I read, the more I recognized God.  He never wrote the 
book as a "literal" portrayal of God.  As for 90 Minutes in 
Heaven, and Heaven Is For Real, I see nothing unscriptural about 
either of those books.  I guess it depends on how you view 
Scripture.  If you believe that every word is totally literally 
true, then no, you will not like The Shack, and be skeptical 
about books like Heaven Is For Real and 90 Minutes in Heaven.
