Hi Andrew, I don't know the statistics about developmental delay
and the blind, but yes, it is found in quite a few blind people.
Sometimes it has to do with the cause of blindness. You can have
a happy, fulfilled life even if you do have some developmental
delay.

I'll tell you something about me. I did fine in school with all
my classes, but I have a terrible sense of direction. I reverse
myself, and if I learn a route, I have trouble reversing it. It
takes me a long time to learn a place and be oriented, especially
indoors. For years I struggled with that, and in some ways I
still do. And please, don't tell me I need more training, folks.
I've had tons of OandM training. One of the reasons I travel
with a dog is because it helps me by giving me just a little more
confidence, and I can walk faster and stay more oriented having a
dog. But it is really embarrassing sometimes, and I don't like
that aspect of my persona. But I am trying not to take it so
seriously and to give it to the Lord and not worry so much about
it, and to be able to laugh at myself. If I can laugh at myself
and find humor in it, then other people don't get so concerned
about it, either. I hope this helps. Blessings, Debby and
Neena
