[Faith-talk] blindness as a gift

I would just say that the ability to adapt is a gift, and that blindness has
presented me with an opportunity to develop other gifts , gifts that may
have lain dormant without my visual impairment, however; most of said gifts
have been developed under duress and out of desperation, the large part of
which I would have gladly done without. However, feel free to see blindness
in any way you would like; use whatever philosophy will help you excel. I
can actually see it from your side of the fence when I take a third person
panoramic view, when I step back out of my own body for a minute and examine
the entire situation, I can understand how you and others who are both blind
and sighted could see it in that way. Remember, everyone should be
independent and successful. Of course, I feel that spark of pride in
knowing that my skill sets developed over long years in combination with my
ability to adapt and sharp mind have helped me excel in a situation to the
same level and in many cases above my peers. Given an even chance and close
to equal access, we usually outperform our sighted counterparts due to
having to always raise our level through the entirety of our lives.
However, they have the last laugh as soon as they are able to read something
which has been rendered inaccessible, can maneuver a web site that is not
blind friendly, or simply get into a car and drive off.

I think it is a gift because of our ability to show our faith, even through
our blindness. Even if we don't realize it, we are showing our great faith
by adapting things, being independent, and succeeding despite what the rest
of the world says. Our faith that God has not abandoned us because of our
blindness shows. So, in essence, I see a great gift and a unique
perspective.
