[Faith-talk] healing, blindness and other thoughts

Hi Maureen -- The only exposure to CS I have had is memory of an old aunt
who had joined that church. She once was talking to me when I was a small
child and I was telling her about my medical problem that made my eyes so
fragile, and after listening a while she said, "No you don't have that." I
had then suffered through sever serious eye ruptures and surgeries and I
replied "Yes I do". I figured if faith healing was denying you had
something that you clearly did have, then that wasn't quite right.
Anyway, I have suffered a lot from doctors of various disciplines and they
often misdiagnose my condition, but sometimes they are unavoidable. That
being said, I have also experienced some miraculous incidents in which I
would heal in a way that seemed impossible, when the docs could do nothing.
I have discovered that I can't demand this in my prayers however. It
requires asking but also accepting God's will.
As for Christian science, they publish the CS Monitor which a lot of people
read, but I have never have read it.
I think there is so much to learn about on this planet we live on and it is
not only useful but acceptable to God to study medicine and try to help
people when possible.
I could never be a Christian Scientist.
But my Mother read MB Eddy's book to my dad when he was dying of cancer, and
they liked parts of it, so she is recommending it as a good read.
Take care.

Hi
Personally I believe Jesus still heals though we don't see many healings of
blind people here, however He is still doing it in other countries. I know
of a missionary to India who prayed for a guy born with no eyes in India,
the blind man was not a believer. Nothing happened. But the next day he
woke up seeing perfectly. Because of that he believed in the Savior. And
so I sometimes ask for this and sometimes I feel I get glimpses of things
though it is not physical.
As for Christian Science a friend of mine, well her parents were strong
believers and the only thing I knew of them is that they did not believe in
doctors at all.

Has anyone else played the mental game of wondering if your vision loss or
improvement carries some message from God? Probably everyone who has lost
vision gradually over many years has prayed for more sight, or no more loss.
Something about sight carries a spiritual message in some passages of
scripture. I can't remember the verses any more. But I think
second-guessing what changes in your vision mean (if there is a meaning) is
a futile activity.
Sorry. I should look up the quote but I don't have it handy.
Has anyone read "Science and Health and Key to the Scriptures"? Someone
recommended it to me. I know nothing about Christian Science. Anyone have
experience with it?
I'm just curious. I've long since been resigned to being blind the rest of
my life, but there's always things to learn.
Excuse the ramble.
