Hi Ericka, very good thoughts. My husband and I attended an ELCA
church before we both became part of our parish in the Catholic
Church. For a little while I was working and couldn't be as
involved, but there was a time when we were quite involved, until
we moved away. Now we are somewhat involved in our parish,
though with me working full time we aren't as available as we
will be when I get laid off later this winter. But I'm part of
the Altar Society, they want my husband to join the Knights of
Columbus, and we will also be attending a Bible study and helping
with the RCIA, plus the choir. But I have been in a small town
like Victorville. People live big distances from each other, and
they just aren't all that willing to go out of their way. To be
honest I'd never ever move to a place like Victorville. And I'm
not berating you Robert, but I really think it's a very good idea
to do some basic research before moving somewhere. Just because
the cost of living is low somewhere doesn't mean that it's blind
friendly. A place that has most streets and roads with no
sidewalks, a place that has limited bus and paratransit service,
and a place that is kind of redneck wouldn't be an ideal place
for a blind person. My home town might not be that great either,
except for my family. Unfortunately what works best for most of
us are places that are walkable, have plenty of bus and
paratransit available. These places tend to also be more
liberal. Charlote North Carolina used to be listed as the number
1 best city for folks who are blind. But hey, I'm not ready to
load the bus and head there. (Grin). Debby
