[Faith-talk] Catholicism

Hi everyone,
As some may know, I grew up Catholic, so I am very familiar with the Church. I do agree that there isn’t as much of a community in the Catholic church, but I think part of that is the ritual and running of the church, as well as how big the church is. Yes, people are very nice there, but very widespread and it is hard to form community in my opinion. Of course it depends on the church, just like other things.

I have noticed protestants do a better job with the community aspect. They take the time to talk to congregants and make sure they are welcome. Unfortunately, being judgmental comes with the territory but that’s just being human.

I have studied many religions and many spiritual paths, and it’s everywhere. I have been going to an episcopal church, and I will tell you I have never seen a church accept people with open arms as heartily and lovingly as our episcopal church here in our home town. I have herd the same of other churches like it, but it’s astounding how accepting they are of all people no matter what, depending on the branch. Yes, there is ritual but they make a point of fellowship every week without fail, whereas other churches such as some catholic churches may do a hospitality hour once a month.

I have found that going to smaller churches is the key. That way you get to know people more intimately and can fellowship better. Hope this helps.

Christine.

It would be impossible to know this unless you visited everyone's home and observed their daily routines. *smile* The only routine you can comment on is your own. If your church did not encourage spiritual discipline, that is sad. My Catholic friends have been among the most devout studiers I have known.

My former in-laws are Catholic and some of my best friends are as well. I'd be happy to talk about this off-line or my phone number is here. If you read my post in the past you know that I I am quite aware that there are different kinds of Baptists, Lutherans and nondenominationals.

They went up to the railing got their stuff turned around and walked right out the door. I'm not saying this is what you and Nova do. I'm just asking in general. I am sure this insults are heavenly father.

I have tried to be careful about not being derogatory of other people's faith, or systems of beliefs and I would appreciate the same courtesy. You know nothing of Catholic teaching if you think that it is a "drive through" religion. Certainly there are liberal Catholics and more conservative Catholics, just as there ste differing synods of Lutherans, ELCA and Misouri Synod, for instance. Debby P.S. There are also Southern Baptists, American Baptists, Primitive Baptists. There are Uoited Methodists and Free Methodists. There ste Evangelical Friends, and Quakers who aren't sure whether Jesus was resurrected or not. Enough said, I hope. Thank you David Andrews. Debby
