Ericka, we’re all with you, and hope to hear a good report soon; what you are going through is misery!!!

Like the quote about music, and am unhappy that so much of the church has abandoned the old hymns. It isn’t even that I don’t like the newer choruses—I do. But, the music of the older stuff is so much more interesting to me as a classically-trained musician, and the poetry is awesome! I know of one local church where I think I would be generally comfortable, but they take the Scripture concept of singing a new song very literally—they don’t do any hymns at all, and that, for me, would be a deal-breaker. Right now, I’m in a Methodist church—and, if you know anything about the Northeast, you guess correctly that it is fairly liberal, but because, when I was last looking for a church, many of the more conservative churches were either too conservative or had other issues that I couldn’t handle, and because it flung the door open to me, I bounced right in. I’m generally happy there (or, at least, not unhappy enough to leave), since they received me heartily, and have made use of my gifts of writing, speaking and music in ways most churches haven’t (not necessarily because of ignorance about blindness—more that there wasn’t a writing ministry, or there were so many musicians already installed that they didn’t need another one). And, while I’m waiting around for a church I’d be more content with, I’m feeling led to pray for Methodism (at least in the Northeast) to return to its Wesleyan roots. I’ve always wanted the maturity to stay put even if I had problems with a church, and I have been at Christ United Methodist for 5-plus years, so I guess God is answering that desire—sometimes being in a church is less about me getting fed, than about my being in prayer and supporting the congregation.
