Hi, Rob.

Yes, things are very difficult in many areas as people have become busier and many are working two or even three jobs. The difficulty of living in an area with no sidewalks is frustrating for many people. Kevin and I were married in 2012 and this will be the first time we have lived in an area with sidewalks and safe walking routes. Many areas of our town have no sidewalks, narrow roads, and high speed limits.

Good for you Sarah. Unfortunately, no matter where we would likve in Victorville, there are no sidewalks anywhere up here. We can't move down the hill because it is too expensive for us @ this time. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to go back to work because of my health. I have been trying to get in the telephone customer service class @ Junior Blind in LA, but I can't get a doctor to medically clear me. This means that besides my SSDI & my small amount I get from disability retirement fromt eh Federal Government Sarah's little bit of income she gets for cleaning is not enough for us to move closer to where transportation would be better for me.

As I have posted before, people just don't want to be as helpful as they would have been 5 to 10 years ago because of the world we live in.

Kevin and I have struggled for a long time with transportation diffficulties with church. We have been able to get rides to Sunday morning worship, and I have been able to get rides to Wednesday evening choir practice; but it is often difficult to get rides to activities that are held at other times because everyone’s schedules are so full. My parents (who don’t attend the same church) have helped us out at times, but this has been very frustrating. We have had numerous discussions with staff and have lost other members who are blind because of similar difficulties. We continue on with efforts to advocate with not only our own church but others in the community.

Anyway, we have been attempting to solve our own problem by looking to purchase a home in the neighborhood that is near both our church and my employer, where there are sidewalks and we will be able to navigate more independently. We are happy to share that we made an offer on a house and it was accepted. So we will be able to walk to church, and I will be able to walk to the university. This is a huge load off our shoulders! God is so good!
