[Faith-talk] catholicism question

Sorry you didn't just go to jenny, but I totally understand how you are energized by both the music and Eucharist/communion Debby. I feel the same way. At my Lutheran Church it is very much like the Catholic mass. We even sing the Psalm responses. Our church doesn't have a Kanter, but our choir fills that role. Other places in worship and other times of year things are chanted. Aside from our doctrinal/sacramental differences the service at my church anyhow it's pretty much the same as your mass. Not all lutheran churches are like this however. I love the fact that our church embraces variety. Every second or third Sunday is global worship Sunday. Those days we have prayers and music from other countries and usually there is a speaker after words somehow relating to global ministries. Lately we've had an immigrant and a Muslim woman both come to speak to us about their experiences. The Muslim woman spoke about the similarities between what they believe and Christians believe. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend her entire speech. I wanted to ask her how people with disabilities were treated.

> Hi Jenny, I've done this so that hopefully it just comes to you. I love music, and love to sing, too. But there is so much more to being Catholic than the music. The biggest thing for me is that it is the only Church I can go to and receive the Eucharist in the fullest sense. This is Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. When I go up to receive —munion, I am so filled with wonder, and know that Jesus loves me. Certainly there are other ways to experience His love, but after returning !the Church, I realized how much I missed being away. So although I feel your sadness about not being able to sing all the songs, being Catholic is so much more. I get frustrated when I visit Mount Angel and can't participate fully in the prayers of the monks. I chsed to have the translation of the Psalms that they use, and the ORDO, the Order of prayer. But in my moves, I've lost the ORDO and part of the Psalms translation, so last time I was there, I couldn't fully participate. It made me sad, yes. But getting to visit with some of my old professors, and other friends from the monastery made it totally worth it, even with the missing parts of the Psalms. I'm no martyr, but I do think it's important to figure out what you believe, and then figure out a way to stay there. I'm speaking from experience. My time as a non-practicing Catholic was difficult, and even though there may be times when it is difficult, I think, for me anyway, that it is important to stay.

I den't know why they aren't using the cartridges that NLS is using, but they're not. Well, I'd best close this before it becomes more of a novel. Blessings, Debby
