Hi Sheila,
Firstly, Tom Anderson thinks this would be a good topic for a
list conference call, rather than having a string of messages.
What do you all think?
Secondly, I'll weigh in here just to say a couple things. Being a
secular organization, the NFB does not totally line up with what
I believe as a Christian. For example, "Live the life you want"
leaves God out of the equation. It seems errogant to me, but
that's the way of the world. If we are true Christians, we want
to live the life God wants us to live. He can, and often will,
stop us from living the life we want if our will does not line up
with His.
There are many things in the NFB I can and do support: Braille,
blindness skills, living independently, mentoring others,
networking and being friends
with many in the blindness community, being a positive and good
blind role model, sharing resources I know about to help others
in need, etc. The NFB philosophy has many parts, and I support
those I can in good conscience.
I hope this helps. Very good thoughts from you, Tammy!
Blessings,
Linda
