Well said peter.

These dogs are amazing. I'm working on my sixth one, and like Peter, will never be without one as long as I am physically able to use one.

There are many experienced handlers on this list so feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.

Good luck George, and keep us posted on how you are doing with your new guide. .

George,
When I got my first guide dog Tabitha a Golden Retriever I felt as though the world reopened to me.
I lost my vision in a motorcycle wreck, two years later I got my first dog. I will never be without a guide dog just so long as I can physically do so.
When I got Thatcher my present dog, he was Fourteen months old.
George what you learned using a cane, well getting a guide dog. It is like going from roller skates, to a Mussel car.
Wait until that first time when you put the harness on your dog. Then you say forward. I can remember how fast I was moving. What you have to touch with your cane. Well your dog see's that, and is already going around that obstacle.
Let me assure you that your dog won't let anything happen to you when he or she is guiding you. the dogs are amazing because the trainers are amazing!
George when you get your dog, remember the dog will be as good as you are. Your dog will get you to where you want to go by giving them directions. Left, Right, straight ETC. at the beginning you I'm certain will believe your dog is amazing. Well let me assure you that they are.
The more and more you use your guide dog, the time you two will take to bond will become shorter.
Much of what I say you will go over when you get your dog. I am excited for you. I know how a guide dog changed my life, and I'm certain the dog will do the same for you.
Best of luck in becoming a future guide dog user!

Yes, it is.
I applied last year to a school but ended up not going because of scheduling conflicts.
But this is the first time I’ve actually made it through and have cleared my schedule specifically to do this.
By the way how old are the dogs when you start training at school?
I think they’re between 2 to 3 years right?

Jorge
