Greetings!

Welcome back to school! A new year is upon us and things for us (as for you) are very, very busy. Also, we have a great deal of new information available for you, new workshops, new directories, new informational wheels, new ways to access information, web accessible trainings and information, and our continuing desire to serve all of you in the districts as best as we can.

We also are responsible for two statewide initiatives that you may want to pay attention to in this newsletter. These are Ushers Training and the Statewide ESE Directors' Focus Groups. Every district should have someone at their regional activity.

Please take a look at through this newsletter! We hope you enjoy it!

Sincerely,

Mark & Diana

Early diagnosis of Usher syndrome is very important. The earlier that parents and school personnel know that a child has Usher syndrome, the sooner that child can begin special education services to learn how to manage the loss of hearing and vision....

ESE Directors' Regional Focus Groups

Between now and the new year, OSBD, in collaboration with FLDOE, will be conducting a series of focus groups with ESE directors. The focus groups have been developed to look at the state of education for children who are deaf / hard or hearing or blind / visually impaired. The purpose of these focus groups is to develop a better understanding of the issues, concerns, and successes for these students, what issues, trends, and concerns that districts have for the future in educating these children, and what the needs of the districts are and will be in educating these students....

But as time moves forward, I think I can see the beginnings of the end of that epoch and the distant stirrings of a new epoch, still to be named, coming. This epochal change began the weekend of Family Café....
