Subject: Daylight-savings time- Chronic sleepiness - Blindness

Dear Chris Danielsen

As daylight-savings time is approaching, I thought that you may be
interested to know about a local TV show that will discuss chronic
sleepiness on Monday, November 1. Dr. Emsellem from the Center for Sleep
& Wake Disorders in Chevy Chase MD will participate in "Let's Talk Live"
hosted by Natasha Barrett and Melanie Hastings (between 11:30am and
12noon, Comcast: channel 28, RCN: channel 308, Verizon FIOS: channel 8,
U.S. Capitol: channel 48).

She will discuss chronic sleepiness, what you need to know year-round
and also in the weeks following the shift to daylight-savings time.

As you know chronic sleepiness is a particularly serious problem for
some individuals who are blind and lack light sensitivity necessary to
reset their "body clock". As a result, people may develop a condition
called Non 24-Hour Sleep Wake Disorder (N24HSWD) where they experience
inconsistent sleep patterns and often have trouble falling and staying
asleep during conventional hours.

I would appreciate if you could help us raise awareness of this disorder
by passing this information to your friends and the members of your
organization. I have attached a fact sheet on N24HSWD and the
announcement of a clinical trial which is currently enrolling subjects
in the Maryland-Virginia-DC area.

Thank you very much

Best regards,

Christian Lavedan, Ph.D.
