Please circulate:

The National Federation of the Blind is assisting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a research team from Toxcel, LLC with a project designed to identify and begin to address the needs of vulnerable road users and members of the disability community so that they can safely and efficiently use automated vehicles (AVs) that are developed in the future.

We are looking for people to participate in a focus group of 8-12 people who would be willing to share their thoughts about what these “vehicles of the future” should like as well as their experiences in ride shares and using other vehicles for transport as they might relate to AVs.

We welcome participation of members of the disability community as well as families, friends, caregivers and other stakeholders of vulnerable/disabled road users. Participants will be reimbursed $100 for sharing their thoughts and ideas.

What: A focus group session will likely last about two hours and will be led by Carrie Redden, Toxcel’s Director of Health & Planning. The discussion will focus on design features and information systems that need to be considered to ensure that users receive required information both inside and outside of an autonomous vehicle.

When: Wednesday, February 5 from 1 – 3 p.m.

Where: 200 E Wells St, Baltimore, MD 21230 (NFB Headquarters).
