[Greater-Baltimore] Time Sensitive Request for your experiences around Employment

Hello everyone,

I am seeking written employment-related feedback from blind people which will be passed on to the Office of Disability Employment Advancement Policy (ODEAP,) part of the Maryland Department of Disabilities, and what better group of blind people to ask than you? Your responses are going to the Executive Director of the office and will have a direct impact on MDOD policies and employment-focused legislation. Any feedback about your experiences surrounding finding and applying for jobs, as well as being employed, as a blind person, is welcome, and your answers to the following questions might spark additional thoughts.

You can answer as many or as few of the questions as you wish, or you could use them as a guide and respond in some other format.

Please send responses to chiser at nfb.org no later than Thursday Sept 24.

1. Have you been, or are you currently, employed? if so, what field or fields have you held positions in?
2. Did you encounter accessibility challenges while seeking employment, or while employed, and if so, did the workplace provide reasonable accommodations to you?
3. Have you encountered negative attitudes about blindness while seeking employment that impacted your ability to apply, interview, or otherwise participate in employment-related tasks in an equivalent way?
4. What is your overall impression of seeking employment and being employed as a blind person?
5. What would you like ODEAP to know about your employment experiences?
6. If you created a state-wide policy that could change employment experiences of blind people, what would that policy address?
