Hi Stacie,
Could you post this message, and any subsequent to the Greater Philly list,
as well as any other folks you might think could benefit?
I know you have an extensive list, especially for those in the local area.
Thank you.
Simon.

Hello ADLN Community,
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying a nice winter weekend!
This is Simon Bonenfant. You may remember receiving an email from me
several months ago, stating that I would begin to promote audio-described
events. Starting today February 1st, I will send monthly emails outlining
the details you need to know about the audio-described events taking place
in that given month.
For February, there are three audio-described opportunities, all within the
theatre sector. First, on Friday February 7th at 7:30 PM, Nicole Sardella
will be describing the Broadway musical Come From Away. This will take
place at the Academy of Music and is presented by the Ensemble Arts Philly
Broadway Series.
Here is a description of the musical from the Ensemble Arts website:
“This New York Times Critics’ Pick takes you into the heart of the
remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in
Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but
uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude
grew into enduring friendships. On 9/11, the world stopped. On 9/12, their
stories moved us all.”
To purchase tickets online, visit this Webpage
<https://www.ensembleartsphilly.org/series-and-subscriptions/broadway-series/come-from-away>.
You can also buy tickets through audience services, by calling
215-893-1999.
This performance will also be ASL interpreted.
At the Arden Theatre Company, there are two audio described and open
captioned performances of Michael Hollinger’s new play called Holy Grail of
Memphis. The performances take place on Friday February 14 at 7:00 PM, as
well as Saturday, February 15th at 2:00 PM. Audio description will be
provided by Nicole Sardella.
Here is a description of the play. “When Newton Stover II discovers the
long-lost recordings of a legendary bluesman in the basement of his
granddaddy’s rundown music studio, he resolves to rebuild his life and
legacy. But time and money are running out fast, and the ghosts of the past
— and an unexpected stranger — keep showing up. Holy Grail of Memphis is a
new comedy by Philadelphia playwright Michael Hollinger about embracing the
future, releasing what haunts us, and singing the blues.”
The show runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Best
availability is on Friday the 14th. They are currently filling a Waitlist
for the 15th. Those who wish to utilize the Audio Description service can
borrow a Listening Device and pair of headphones from the box office in
exchange for a form of ID.
Tickets are available online at ardentheatre.org or through the box office
by calling 215.922.1122 – you can note on your order your interest in using
the service as part of the purchase process. If you’d like to learn more
about the Arden’s Accessibility information more broadly, they have an
excellent comprehensive Accessibility Webpage
<https://ardentheatre.org/plan-your-visit/accessibility/>.
Next, we have some very exciting news! I’m happy to announce that
Montgomery Theatre, located in Souderton PA, will be offering their first
audio-described performance, so it would be great to support them! The
production is entitled Hold These Truths by Jeanne Sakata. Audio
description will be given by Nicole Sardella and will take place on Sunday
February 16th at 3:00 PM.
Here is a description of the play: “Experience an exceptional evening of
theater which chronicles the inspiring true story of civil rights hero
Gordon Hirabayashi. In WWII, he courageously refused to comply with the
U.S. government’s relocation camps that forcibly interned thousands of
Japanese families. This heartwarming play explores Hirabayashi’s journey to
the Supreme Court as he struggles to reconcile his country’s betrayal with
his deep belief in the U.S. Constitution.”
Here is a bit about the venue. “Montgomery Theater is a professional
non-profit theater in Souderton, PA, operating since 1993. We produce
year-round professional and educational theater across our two stages. Our
Main Stage series includes modern plays, musicals, and American classics.”
You can purchase tickets online at this link
<https://www.montgomerytheater.org/shows/hold-these-truths>. You can also
call the box office at 215-723-9984 x 0. You can also send an email to:
play at montgomerytheater.org if you have any questions about the show or
venue. It is recommended that you reserve a headset in advance of arrival
on 2/16.
I hope you found this information to be helpful. If you attend any of the
performances, we would appreciate it if you send us an email to share your
feedback afterwards.
Do you know someone who may be interested in these monthly updates? Feel
free to forward this along and encourage others to subscribe by sending an
email to adlearningnetwork at gmail.com
With Best regards,
Simon and The ADLN Team.
