Ed,

If you are using Jaws, Window-eyes, Zoomtext or any of the other modern
assistive technology products, all you need is the laptop.  They come with
speakers or headphone jack and all the memory and computing power you need.

If you want to do any scanning on the road, there are even good portable
scanners available.

I've used a desktop computer for years but am looking at a laptop when
traveling. I'm completely at a loss as to whether I would need external
hardware, such as synthesizer, or if all software can be downloaded into the
laptop. In otherwords, is that all I need in the way of hardware?
