[gui-talk] Firefox Running, CAPTCHA Solver

Steve, I've read two articles recently that discredit the whole captia
initiative. I remember one was in C Net. They said new stats showed this
method has had little effect on the serious spammers. As of a couple of
weeks ago it was being used for links to articles I tried to send from the
New York times.

Peter,

This CAPTCHA business is frustrating indeed. It should be noted, though,
that if screen readers and CAPTCHA Solver can decode CAPTCHAs, it won't be
long
before spammers can. In fact, I would make a case that they may do it more
quickly in some cases inasmuch as there are some very clever programmers
working in
the spam and virus area, unfortunately. In particular, OCR-based solutions
will be short-lived because spammers themselves will arrive at the same
approaches. As
long as CAPTCHA Solver works, people might as well use it, but the long term
answer is going to have to be more complex, although it may involve screen
readers.
