[gui-talk] anti-virus software interferes with screenreader?

At home I have an old Dell machine with 512 MB RAM. When Norton
Internet Security is doing a full scan, the machine grinds to a halt,
and can be used for little else. At work this machine has 1 GB RAM, and
when McAfee runs a full scan, the machine still slows down quite a bit,
and sometimes it seems that speech goes away, but it usually returns.
And this is screen reader independent.

Although it is certainly possible, it seems unlikely that NOD32 is
causing this since I have read on the Window-Eyes lists that they have
found it to work well with
Window-Eyes. However, when a full scan of your hard drive is in
process, this can slow the response for other applications, including
screen readers, a lot. Also, if
you don't have a lot of memory, like 500 megabytes, this can have an
effect as well.

There is currently a public beta of Window-Eyes 7.2, and it might be
worth downloading and trying that. I believe some loss of speech issues
have been resolved in
the public beta and it is stable.

Best regards,
