Hi all,

For those that were not aware of the launch yesterday, the new Mac App
Store is now available.

You will need to update via Software update to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and
have an Apple ID (which is what you also use for the iTunes store).
Once you have done this, the App Store icon will appear in the second
position in your Dock next to your Finder icon.

The App Store is extremely easy to use with a toolbar from which you
can select what category you want to view, search for an application
etc, and a HTML area where you browse your information. From within
the App Store, you can still go to the actual developers site if you
want to escape as it were from the closed Mac App Store garden.

There are both free and paid apps. The main thing a like about the App
Store, is you don't have to wonder around a badly designed webpage now
to find an application.

Apple has also broken up its iLife and iWork suite so that you can
purchase individual applications such as Garage Band or Pages.

Unlike the iOS App Store, the Mac App Store, is only one way of getting
applications on to your Mac. You can still access any other source of
getting applications on to your Mac via the web, CD etc.

Unlike the iOS US store where they have a special needs category, there
is no category in the Mac App Store, nor will you know what application
is compatible with voiceOver: there are no trial or demo versions.

Some major applications are missing such as DropBox and Skype, but
there is a good range with over 1000 applications.

A number of folks have reported that on the first launch of the App
Store, the screen has no content. Close the application like you would
any other Mac application, and run it again either from the Dock or
from your Applications directory and all should be well. If this
doesn't work, restart your Mac, and this should also fix the problem.

David
