For my 2 cents worth knfb reader will not work under windows 7. Even
though I'm a licensed jaws user, I don't plan on installing it because I
need the flexibility nvda offers and you can't beat the price and the user
base for nvda is much greater than those who use jaws.

Hello,
For a keyboard, I will recommend the Logitech k360 keyboard with a dongle
from Amazon. You plug the dongle into a usb port. This is a full size
wireless keyboard. It has the numeric keyboard, but it is no wider than a
laptop; therefore it can fit in a computer bag.

You asked more questions than I want to try to answer. But here are a couple
of things:
If you have an external keyboard you will probably want to use the standard
layout rather than the laptop layout, which uses the CapsLock key in place
of the Insert key. That would be my preference, anyway.
I don't know whether your version of OpenBook runs under Windows 10 or not.
It might. If it doesn't, you don't get full OCR of paper documents inside
JAWS until you get to version 2018, the version that came after version 18,
which came out a few weeks ago. Even then, for scanning from paper you are
limited, I think, to a Pearl camera that V F O sells. I use Omnipage
Ultimate with Window-Eyes on Windows 7. There are a lot of choices on the
market, including a Windows 10 version of the KNFB Reader.
I'll let other people make other recommendations, as well as correct any
misstatements I have made. I am still learning JAWS, being a refugee from
the demise of Window-Eyes, which I am using in composing this message.

Greetings:
If you are buying a completely new system, I am strongly recommending
Windows 10 with JAWS 2018, which is the most current version out there. It
is almost impossible now to get anything running Windows 7 these days.
Like Louis, I like the Logitech K360 wireless keyboard because it does have
a numeric keypad, making it quite usable with JAWS.
If you haven't done so already, convert your JAWS license to that of a home
user, thus reducing the biennial maintenance fee to $120.
Aloha,
Curtis Chong

Have you considered a mac? Apple makes some great laptops, and they are
accessible out of the box. And, no need to continuously pay to upgrade
your screen reader.

I maintain those at http://www.dlee.org/updates/dell/jfw_dell.exe
That's a direct link, as I never created my typical web page for that

JAWS 17 include the same capabilities for ocr scanning to speech as does
the Open Book?if so where in JAWS do I find that? How do I use JAWS 17 to
scan a print page and turn it into speech? 3.
Will my I hope imminent upgrade JAWS 18 include such ocr scanning to speech
faculties like those in Open Book?.I am not a complete ignoramus but I am
not very proficient or literate in computer usage or accessible
software and terminology either,just an
elder without any special tech knowledge although the experience
of using a pc with the above kinds of software off and on the
internet since 2004.
Can y'all please inform me of some ideal or optimal for JAWS users
affordable laptops as described above and without a crowded cramped
keyboard, and with a keyboard as much like a standard external keyboard as
possible ,and that on a laptop capable of --with more hthan one usb
port--capable of being operated using a standard American English external
keyboard via a usb connector cable? Will my JAWS 17 work and will my Open
Book work in Windows 10 in a satisfactory way not likely
to frustrate a grizzled someone like me? I would very much appreciate
any
guidance y'all are able to offer,or any pointers to where or who that
might give guidance to me. This will influence my portable
hardware JAWS acquisition decisions. And does anyone see any
advantage to the current PACMate over a JAWS-using laptop?Merci beaucoup..

Hi, Robert.
Here is how to show the BCC field in Outlook.
1. Begin by either composing a new message (ctrl+n) or replying to a message
(ctrl+r.)
2. Press Alt to access the ribbon.
3. Arrow to the right until your focus moves to Options.
4. Press tab until you hear "show bcc."
5. Press space to activate this.
6. Press escape.
Your BCC field should now be available for all future messages that you
compose.

This is correct. While my intent is not to turn this thread into a Mac vs.
Windows debate I would like to add that, with Windows 10, it is also
possible to use Windows out of the box as well with Narrator. While Narrator
may not be quite as powerful as VoiceOver, NVDA is also a free screen
reader, with four updates per year.

Aloha,
Curtis Chong

and my Open Book and my HP Jet something HP 4____ printer/scanner

description---I Not asking anyone to try to push any particular
laptops but I am seeking this advice as part of my decision as to
whether and when I can afford a new laptop or refurbished laptop and
be able to soon upgrade to the latest JAWS for home use. Also 1.If I
use a usb connected external standard keyboard to operate the JAWS
loaded laptop do I set the option for laptop or for a standard
keyboard in the JAWS menu? 2. I now use JAWS 17 and Open Book--but
