Hi, Debbi.

I don't have access to a Windows 7 machine here at home but I'm wondering if the drive does show up when you open My Computer? In other words, once the drive has been connected and you hear the sound indicating that a USB device was recognized open My Computer, which should display a list of available drives. Depending on how the list is being displayed you may have to press right arrow to navigate through the list of items so don't panic if pressing down arrow doesn't seem to provide any verbal feedback. When you're in this list of drives can you tell me if the new external USB drive appears in the list? If it does I suspect that the fix lies in the Windows autoplay settings. I believe this is located within Control Panel or you can just open the start menu and type autoplay in the search box. Autoplay settings allows you to tell your computer how it should behave when a new device is connected to it and I'm wondering if external drives is set to "take no action"

Hi, Everyone,

I am still running Windows 7 on my desktop computer but it is a farily new
install. The first time I tried to open an external hard drive after the
Windows 7 installation, the external drive was connected and I got the
little sound showing it was but the drive would not pop up. My computer
person told me that each external drive I had would have to be named in
order for me to be able to access it. He helped me name the ones I had.
But, now, a friend has sent me an external drive and, when I plugged it in,
I heard the little beep but the drive, again, does not pop up. I don't
remember how to name the drive so that I can access it. Can anyone help?
Thanks so much.
