Aloha, my Federation Ohana:

Mahalo for everyone's great participation this session. Here are some quick updates on the progress that happened today:

  1. The House of Representatives adopted, in final form, House Resolution 138, House Draft 1, REQUESTING THE HAWAII STATE JUDICIARY AND DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES TO NOT USE BLINDNESS AS A BASIS FOR DENYING PARENTAL RIGHTS. That resolution can be read here: https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2018/bills/HR138_HD1_.HTM
  2. The House of Representatives adopted House Concurrent Resolution 162, House Draft 1, which is the same resolution except for the fact that it has the chance to be passed by both chambers. Thus, it has now been referred to the Senate.
  3. Our bill to end subminimum wages for workers with disabilities was reported out of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. The amendments look good, and we can look forward to the bill hopefully passing third reading early next week!
A hui hou,

Justin

"Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore."
