Good evening fellow Federation advocates,

Senate substitute for House Bill 2176 is still pending for action in a house/Senate conference committee, as I have previously reported. However, there has been an apparent change in the composition of the Senate side of the committee. Therefore, I will provide the complete list of members of the conference committee to whom you may still contact to urge favorable action on the bill. As before, the names and email addresses will appear after my signature block.

I can imagine that you all are getting quite tired of hearing these repeated action requests from me. Frankly, I am also tired of sending them, but this is worth that is critical to be done. but it comes down to, is preserving at least $30,000 in our state affiliate treasury. The hard reality is that if we fail to procure stable, permanent funding for Newsline, we will have some very difficult choices to make, e.g., do we continue funding the Kansas subscription to Newsline or do we stop helping people to get to major events such as the NFE national convention, our state affiliate convention, and the Washington Seminar. I won’t harp too much on the condition of our state affiliate, finances, but suffice it to say we have lost two of our three revenue sources. Of course we hope to develop future fundraising opportunities, but in the meantime, one way to cushion against these losses is to save as much as we can. Therefore, This important measure that provides permanent stable funding for NFB Newsline® is the obvious choice.

All of this said, I thank you in advance for helping us to communicate this urgent message to the conference committee., thereby having us preserve this excellent audio news and information service.

In summation, the three points we want to communicate to the committee R
• preserve the language of original Senate Bill 284 without changes
• remove any provisions, that may be controversial in the underlying measure
• most importantly, describe in specific terms why and if the Newsline Is important to you.

Best regards,
Rob Tabor, | first vice president/legislative Director national Federation of the line of Kansas
