Hi Leslie,
My name is Ronit Ovadia and I've been on this list a while, but have
been quiet. I'm not a social worker, but a genetic counselor, and have
just gotten my first job! I'm very excited about that. Anyway, I wanted
to let you know that unfortunately, I've also tried using Epiccare in my
rotations during grad school and it's pretty much unusable with any
screen reader. I had to use a reader/computer assistant to help me
complete my rotations successfully. I think it is unfortunate that it is
so difficult to get in to hemedical field including medical social work
and would love to help you out if I can. I would love to see more blind
people in the medical field.
Feel free to get in touch with me offlist if you have other questions or
if you just want to vent about things. I would also be happy to talk to
you by phone if you would like to. I can share with you some of the
things that I did during my rotations and some of the techniques I've
come up with. Nothing works perfectly, but at least I was able to get my
first job, even if it did take me a whole year to do so.
Take care nad good luck.

I firstly am wondering if anyone has contact info for anyone that may be able to give me some pointers on medical social work with a visual impairment and, I am also having a very difficult time completing my responsibilities because our charting program Epic is completely inaccessible with JAWS.
