Dear Mary,

I live in Chicago, which has excellent public transporation.  I'll ask 
around about suburban lines (PACE and Metra) in North Chicago and 
surrounding towns.  North Chicago is actually a good bit north of the city, 
if my memory serves, maybe a 40-minute drive.
