Almost the exact same thing happen to me a couple of years ago, but I can't
remember how I fixed it.

Since you did the Jaws upgrade without a fix, I'm assuming it is a problem
inside Outlook Express.
First, hit alt space bar and hit x while in the inbox to see if maximizing
might help.

Next, try and go into outlook's view menu and change things around.  Open
the Layout dialog.  In the Basic section, all the components should be
checked, apart from the Outlook Bar and the Views Bar.
