[humanser] Intro/looking for individual working in College Student Personnel...

I have never attended either of these conferences, though I have been
involved in the Minnesota affiliate of ACPA. I don't know anyone who is
blind right now who is involved in Student Affairs, other than some people
involved in Disability Services positions. That doesn't mean there aren't
any, though.

I think the best way to get jobs is to network. Make a list of 5-10 colleges
where you would like to work and have phone or in-person meetings with
people in student affairs who have positions similar to those you want. Ask
them some good questions and to keep you in mind if they hear of openings.
Also, just go to the NASFA and ACPA meetings and meet folks. I heard about
my last two positions by being involved in my professional organization.
Also, look at www.higheredjobs.com for the types of positions you would
like. Do not discuss your blindness till you have an interview. I usually
just let them know a couple of days before.

By the way, I don't remember if I let folks know what happened with the
position I applied for this winter. Turns out, they offered it to me and
said it was unanimous. I did some soul-searching and decided to turn it
down, but it did feel great to get the offer.

Hope these ideas help.
