Hi Tara:

Congratulations on graduation! I recall what a long trip that degree was
for me. You must have some staying power.

I remember, too, looking in the New York Times classified section under the
job title: libral artist. Surprise there were no jobs.

I took a semester of graduate work in speech pathology many years ago. It
was not for me so I moved along, but I do have a friend who has been working
in the field. She finds it rewarding, working in elementary schools. Both
NFB and AFB have mentor programs, contacting them would give you an
opportunity to speak with blind professionals in the field. These are the
folks who can tell you about the salaries, paperwork load, and the like. I
would advise going to the sites and checking out what they offer.

Linguistics might lead to so many places - a family member went to Oxford in
linguistics to gain a master's degree, but was unable to afford to continue
for a PhD. She is now managing a coffee shop in Boston.
