Hi Phillip,
I work in the Human service field and we use DBS and EBS staff extensively.
A DBS is a Disability Denefits Specialist and and EBS, Elder Benefits
Specialist. There are different focuses including SSA work incentives which
SSA used to contract a program called the WIPA, or Work Incentives and
Planning Assistance which focus on the work component for persons on SSI and
or SSDI. You can also get additional training through Cornell University
which is a clearninghouse for benefits related info. The other end of this,
is understanding benefits as it relates to anything Medicare, Medicaid,
railroad retirement, Medicare A, B, C and D plans, helping people apply for
Medicaid, Medicare and so much more. I have had what we call Tier-2.5 level
training and received mine through ERI, Employment Resources Inc. located in
Wisconsin...www.eri-wis.org I believe.
If you have other questions as this does sound somewhat what you are looking
for, feel free to write me at blinddog3 at charter.net.
Steve

Welcome Philip,
Benefits Counseling is a part of Human Resources in larger firms, especially
those that offer a variety of benefit programs.
I work at a hospital and we have such a department within the HR department
. At the time when employee benefits are changing, an annual event, we have
choices of a variety of employee benefits; during this "enrollment period"
we have an opportunity to meet with a benefits counselor. At my hospital
this interview is farmed out to an independent provider of such services.
These folks travel around the Central Florida area doing these employee
enrollment interviews.
>From your tag line it would seem that you are seeking something different,
perhaps disability, vetrans, senior and other governmental benefit programs.
If this is your goal, then seeking a case management, advocate, citizen
organizing or social work employment might be more to your liking.
