[humanser] letting you all know

Renee,
I graduated from Argosy Washington DC (American School of Professional Psychology) but, I believe someone else on the list offered to contact a friend. It can feel very lonely when we feel as if we are the singleton and alone with the accessibility issues. Even those who might advocate on our behalf frequently do not understand the magnitude of the situation. I often include the technology specialist from my state agency on dialog about accessibility needs. You should definitely be in touch with your Student Services office to identify the Disability coordinator for your program. Contact the Denver campus and emphatically investigate the service provider who will represent your advocacy and procurement needs. Each university is mandated by law to have such an entity. I am contending with some health issues right now but, am willing to speak with you briefly by phone if I might offer insight or support. Please let me know if that may be helpful.
President Merry Schoch most probably will be reaching out to you as she is very engaged with the process and working through these challenges.
Best,
Mary Tatum Chappell, Psy. D.

Hello Mary:
Sure, forwarding this email to your friend who attended Argosy would surely be helpful. Perhaps if she is willing you can forward my phone number, or ask her for hers.
I feel it is going to be a long road ahead when I have not been able to even connect with a person from the Disability Services to see what my options may be. I feel that there is NO one to represent my behalf since this campus is rather small. The closest program which seems to have a office is Denver Argosy.
I will let the people on this list serve know what my progress is, and who and who isn't willing to work "out of the box."
This should be a healthy and prosperous time, however, There is no one on the campus where I attend who understands or who I can trust to look at things from my perspective having to deal with all of the issues with the JAWS and their interfaces. What writes do we have under the ADA, I believe title three or two?
I am dealing with a professor who is very professional, expects things on time, and who wants things to be in black and white.
If I do not get in my initial thread posting to her then the only other student in class cannot do her part either. The other person attending the class has no disability challenges if I understand.
Because of massive issues with spelling, and some grammar issues they would rather receive what I believe is unacceptable work twenty-four hours after the initial due date rather then letting my tootor Adam correct and help me with the editing. Of course I want to put my best foot forward, professionally.
Besides journaling, there is no real paper writing. I will have transcripts, some presenting trainee videos to record and have watched. Of course, Dr. Jorgensen, the professor for this first term will have to find a way to view two taped sessions because of HIPPA laws. I cannot take any property of the University off campus or out of the Clinic.
So far, UVU and their clinical interns and staff are easy going, receptive, and willing to be some what creative. We will see tomorrow when the Titanium is installed, cross your fingers.
My phone number is:
801-4194593 (cell)
385-223-8348(home)
Thank you all for your support, practical advice, as well as offering hope through your individual successes.
Renee
