Hello Marisol,

I am so glad you have introduced yourself to the list. It was great speaking with you on the telephone. I would like to congratulate you on returning to college. I began my college experience in my forties and graduated with my masters degree in Social Work when I was 50 years old. It has been quite a learning experience since graduation; however, I am confident I will reach my goals.

I have recently subscribed to disability.gov It it is very informative. I have the privilege of being accepted as a TriCare provider which is used by military personnel. I am researching how to become a contractor for the VA since I have worked with civilian's who have experienced traumatic events, and some have been diagnosed with PTSD. I am also researching training certifications for working with military personnel who have experienced trauma(s).

I commend you on your goals. This is a great list to become involved with. If you have any need to reach out to me please do; you have my number.

With warmest regards,
Merry C. Schoch LCSW

Good morning,

My name is Marisol Carmona and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as I am new to the division. I currently live in the Washington, DC area and work for the Department of the Army as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist. However, I will be relocating to Boston next fall to begin a full-time masters program in Social Work. My interest is in trauma and would like to work with soldiers or veterans with PTSD. I would also like to explore ways in which I could provide support to veterans with newly acquired disabilities.
If anyone has experience in this area of social work, or are currently going through a social work degree program, I would love to chat about your experiences. I have been away from academic life for about 6 years and am a bit nervous about the adjustment. If anyone is, or has, been in the same position, I welcome any tips. My goal is to be as prepared as possible, which is why I am reaching out so far in advance J I look forward to maintaining a connection with the group!

Best,

Marisol
